nineteen inches!

Yes! Okay, I got a hand-me-down 19" monitor from my inlaws. Loving it. Just wonderful. I must get a new one if this one breaks.

Installed

I just finished installing a fan over at my mom's house. Also found out she has a digital camera. Not the greatest, but good enough to take pictures of me. I'll have to put them on the web at some point.

Mandy called while I was away, so I'll have to forward the phone so that when she calls later she gets my cell...

Well, gonna start a new program, I think. A .NET calendar program

palm

Man, I like Hanukah! Okay, I got a Palm m130, just like my wife's got. Nice..... I'm gonna like this. Much more useful than my 2MB casio.

Thanksgiving Eve

Well, off work. Looking at BeOS/openBeos. I think maybe that's interesting enough for me to look at working on it, perhaps. Might be too difficult for me, maybe I'll start with developing Be apps...

Going over to the inlaws tomorrow for thansgiving.

reports

Ah, my work report engine is coming along quite nicely. I think I'm even happy with it now that it's object ... well, vaguely oriented. Better than before. You know, I wish I had the time to do a visually-oriented basic interpreter for unix... I'd love it.

Anyways, re-reading Honor Harrington. Found out I'm gonna get a Palm (yes!).

Nice

Just got back from shul for the 2nd week at bnei havurah. Nice place, talked with Shanah. Very nice, welcoming people. I think I'll keep going there for now.

Just had some macaroni and cheese with tuna. Delicious! Not so hungry, now. At shul there was a nice tuna-something spread for the crackers, it really got me in the mood for tuna. Not that I usually need an excuse!

good food

Okay, wife just bought Arbys. I like their food. Sure, it's not anywhere near kosher, but it's still good. And the vegie-equivalents are simply no where near as good.

Snow...

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Oh....nice weather.

Anyways, moving us to Exchange server is fun. It decided that the archives of all email ever sent to us were "delivered", and sent out delivery notices for them. I don't know if it sent out 27,000, or just a few. I suspect around 1000 or so, but I'm not sure, as I used a few methods (including fetchmail, the probable culprit, outlook express, and outlook itself) to move them. So, unlinked them, and I'll wait until we fully move over before I move the remaining ones.

About to put together a backup server, for disk to storage, then storage to tape backup. Bored at home. Geheimnis has problems building on Gentoo, I have RedHat and Debian. Oh well. I hope to have the bugs worked out, and then perhaps I'll leave the project. I don't use Geheimnis, I haven't for a few years, and I'd rather be programming a basic interpreter for linux, a report engine for linux, or a report engine for .net/java. Haven't decided which.

Oh, I'm hungry. Forgot to bring in a lunch. Grrr... I suppose I'll be good and have a can of tuna until I go pick up my wife. Or I'll just wait.

More work

I feel better today, so I went into work. Well, that and I woke up at 6:30 this morning, without the aid of the alarm clock. So... got into work, and have discovered that I have to destory my old domain and create a whole new one - the test Exchange servers effectively blocked any new Exchange installs.... Grr.... Gotta love Microsoft. Not.

So, doing that today. Now installing Exchange on the new machine, so that it's "a pure virgin install", clean from the dirtyness that is life in this office.

I get to come in Sunday to actually destroy the domain, and rejoin all 15 computers to the new one... fun fun.

Sick

Okay, I think I'm a little sick. Chest feels funny, head feels funny, I have a headache, and I feel hot. (Which is a common occurence, but not in my ears, usually.)

We'll see tomorrow how I feel. At least I can work from home if I need to. And that's good, I'm setting up the Exchange server (the boss decided that the old server could be recycled NOW). It just decided to reboot, though, for no good reason. And I *hope* it didn't just decide it's overheated and shut down completely. That would be annoying.

YES! It just came back up. G-d bless the maker of Ping. I may block it at my firewall, but at least I return it. (Currently.)

Checkbooks' up to date, studied a little torah (about the tithing of the first fruits, it's parsha Ki something...

It's gonna snow!!

Yay! It's gonna snow. I can SMELL it. Cold, and wet.

Also just had some chimichangas. Delicious. I may have more. Fixed minor bugs in the work production system. Now trying out debian for the firewall test - redhat 8 doesn't seem to like fwbuilder, some of the libraries aren't packaged, and the 7.0 ones won't work. So, will rebuild it with Debian.

Okay...

Okay, got the sql server data moved. I had to script out the table structures, apply them, then try to copy over the views and sprocs. Then, I got to script out the remaining ones, and try them one at a time. Then scripted out the permissions, then the indexes/triggers/keys (as they didnt' want to copy correctly). I sure hope the next version of SQL isn't like this....

Well, now that that's moved, we have to wait a week, and if it's still working well, then I'll reformat the old machine and install Exchange. Fun fun fun.

Shoes

Okay, the shoes are a little stiff, but they're new. Steel toed. I like it, although they do get a little warm. Also thinking of making an iCalendar program for Win32 (VB.net, perhaps). Dunno, think it would be useful. Just took a long walk, liked the cool weather. Ankles hurt now, though.

The wife's playing EQ and reading web pages. I'm listening to Bryan Adams, and I think I'll go off and browse the web, too...

Shoes

Just got some new shoes - steel toe. Heavy. Rather toasty. I dun like toasty - I'm a Winter kind of guy. I'll live - in the winter it'll be nice to have them. Went shopping a little, got a pumpkin. I think I'm leaning towards Libertarianism. I'll have to think about it more.

stuff

Okay, I want Pete Yorn's CD with the on a chain song on it. Like that song alot. Lucky that I can even remember the name for this long (2 weeks). Eating cheese-topping on town house crackers. Mmmmm.... Well, got back from shul and picking my wife up from her work. Fun fun. I'm so ignoring work, and I'm gonna love it. Until Monday, that is.

Forgot to email the boss about the sql server, but then, we're not a 24x7 shop, so it probably isn't a big deal. I'll probably email him Sunday.

I think I need more social friends. Ones that I can hang out with, and who understand me. Okay, maybe not that last part, even my wife doesn't understand me all of the time. It'd even be nice to have one of them Jewish so we could study Torah and shtuff. Well, until I can re-arrange the world to suit My Whims, I'll just yawn and go to sleep...

I hate sql server

Okay, I officially hate ms sql 2000 server. I hope that Microsoft dies a horrible corporate death. There is NO way to SAFELY transfer the logins. Pissed off is too nice of a phrase to describe how I feel right now. And now it's almost Shabbes, so I can't do this now. I'll have to wait until Sunday to reboot the server so I can reinstall the program, then reboot again, then apply SP3, then reboot again, and THEN try to recopy the database. And I get to explain to the boss WHY we're not moving to the new server yet. I probably won't be able to try moving the data until Friday, again.

And what's worse: I DID script out the permissions, so when I ran it, it should have worked fine. It didn't. Oh, but I am pissed. Stupid SIDs. Binary ones, even. At least a GUID is cut-and-pastable.

Oh well, I'll head home, then over to Micah for Shabbes, and see if I can't calm down before dinner...

ms sql server

Right now I'm really not liking SQL server 2000. Just trying to migrate from one server to the other, and it refuses to move the user logins properly, so they can't bind to the database. After 2 hours of fiddling with scripts, wizards, and bloody copying the files, if this last trick doesn't work, I'm gonna recommend we put off moving off of the 7.0 server for at least a week, if not more, while reconfigure the whole DB for a new userlogin.

Which will delay fixing the mail system (the old 7.0 server will be reformatted and have Exchange put on it). The current mail system (an IMAP sync program for Outlook) appears to be rather unstable, so we need off of that ASAP. Arghh....

Starting out

Well, just starting my journal. I'm actually on lunch break from work, so I'll get back to work now. :) I'm hungry. I should go get a lunch first, then go back to work. Just ate a small burrito from a co-worker, nice and spicy.
